The times don’t seem auspicious for Pakistan cricketers. And its not only to do with their poor form, in-team disputes, disharmony, mudslinging, bans, fines, reprimands etc etc etc. It’s high time someone spells out to them to refrain from any felonies.

First we had the infamous ball-biting act by Shahid Afridi. Not only was he dumb enough to do it on live television in front of 26 cameras, but to make himself look stupider, he gave a lame excuse that he was trying to smell the ball. Now you don’t need to do your Masters in Biology to know that in normal humans the smell receptors are located inside the nostrils and not on the teeth.

Then, of course, we have the on-going marriage saga of Shoaib Malik. For long Shoaib continuously denied that he was ever married to Ayesha Siddiqi. However, after the Siddiqui family went public with the nikahnama, with Shoaib’s signature on it, he has now changed his version saying he was tricked into the marriage. Hmmm…it sounds like an acceptable argument if it comes from an illiterate villager. But from an educated national cricketer?? Wonder how many educated urban Pakistani men would consider marrying a girl over the phone without ever meeting her.

And now, we have the Pakistan national cricket team’s 20 year old opening batsman Nasir Jamshed, who has landed up in police custody after being caught red handed cheating in his secondary school (Class 9th) examinations!!! But keeping up with his compatriot’s trend of offering lame excuses, Nasir said, “In the first place I was not appearing in the English paper my friends were appearing in it and I was there helping them.” Err…first of all, that would also be considered as a misdemeanor, but more importantly, it will be interesting to see how Nasir explains that his Roll No. 105268, was on one of the papers if he wasn’t supposed to appear for the English exam which apparently was compulsory.

After Afridi’s ball-biting incident, Ramiz Raja admitted that ball-tampering was a part of Pakistan culture. Well Ramiz, you can surely add a few more misdeeds to the list.

Azhar Mahmood Sagar born February 28, 1975 in Rawalpindi) is a Pakistani cricketer, . Originally his father objected to his interest in cricket, but later started to appreciate it seeing his accomplishments. As a teenager, Azhar was mentored by Irfan Bhatti who played a One Day International for Pakistan in the early 90’s. When not doing net practice, Azhar would fancy himself playing tape ball cricket on the cemented pitch in the cricket ground in front of his home. Azhar made his One-Day International debut against India in 1996, but did not gain major recognition until his Test debut against South Africa the following year when he hit a century and a half-century without being dismissed. He later went on to score two more centuries against the South Africans. He joined the Pakistani team primarily as a medium pacer but he has surprised many by his batting prowess. His hard hitting but orthodox batting skills have also been extremely useful in the one-day game. Unlike most Pakistani pacers who are swing bowlers, he is a useful English-style seam bowler, who can chip in with wickets in time of need.[citation needed] In 2000, Lt-General Tauqir Zia, then the PCB chairman, said that the board would choose the next captain - not based on seniority alone - and if people find the choice unacceptable they will not be selected. Later - in front of some senior players - he told Azhar Mahmood that he will be the next Pakistan captain. Together they would plan the future strategy. But till now this never came to happen.[citation needed] Azhar has played county cricket for Surrey and in November 2007 signed a two year deal to play for Kent[1]. He was recalled to the national side for the ODI series against South Africa in early 2007, but subsequently dropped when the 2007 Cricket World Cup team was announced. He was however recalled to go with the squad to the West Indies after a knee injury to Abdul Razzaq. It was Mahmood's 3rd World Cup. However, aside from playing in a practice match, Azhar didn't get a chance to participate in the World Cup and Pakistan's early exit from the tournament meant that he was once again, in line for being axed from the national squad. Following his exclusion, Mahmood returned to playing county cricket in UK. Over the years, due to his constant exclusion from the Pakistani squad and the fact that he has crossed the 30 year mark in his age, it seems that Mahmood is not as interested in returning to Pakistani line up as he once was. His weight gain, mediocre performances in ODIs, combined with the tough competition for the all rounder slot in the Pakistani line up means that his chances for making a return to the national squad are very limited. He has recently signed with the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and has been released from his central contract. Recently he has received British citizenship, thus allowing him to play for Kent as an English-qualified player, further distancing himself from a recall to the Pakistan side[1].

Mohammad Hafeez is a Pakistani cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler. Hafeez generally opens the batting and is also skilful boundary fielder.
International careerHafeez was one of the several young all-rounders the Pakistani cricket team turned to after their poor Cricket World Cup display in 2003, in which they were eliminated in the first round.
Hafeez scored a half-century on his Test debut against Bangladesh, and in his following Test hit a century. His form with bat and ball would then drop considerably and in late-2003 he was dropped from the Test squad, and soon after the ODI side. With strong domestic performances as well as good showings for the Pakistan A, he remained on the fringes of a recall in 2004. Hafeez returned to the ODI side in 2005 and despite not contributing with the bat, his bowling performances were impressive. In the 2006 Top End Series held in Australia, Hafeez smashed a century for Pakistan A. With Pakistan struggling to find a solid opening pair for Test cricket, Hafeez was recalled for the tour of England. His return to Test cricket was made at The Oval and he scored a fluent 95. Later that year in November, Hafeez retained his place in the side for their home series against the West Indies. After getting starts in the first two Test he would go on to score his 2nd Test century in the 3rd Test in Karachi.
2010 Recall and Good FormIn 2010 he was recalled for the 3rd ICC World T20 Cup. he had poor form in it but showed signs of class batting. He was subsequently recalled again for the T20Is and the ODIs on Pakistan's tour of England. He had some good scores in it and had some solid partnerships with opener Kamran Akmal.
Following this good form he was also in the squad that was selected to play South Africa in the UAE. After some impressive score in the opener slot, he was again rewarded with now a test call up. He had some decent scores in the test matches and bowled some tidy overs of offspin as well.
At the end of 2010 he was also selected for the party that would tour New Zealand. In all of the T20s he made some good scores including a 46.
In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, he started the tournament with a few poor scores with the bat, and was consistent with the ball. Especially 10 overs for just 26 runs against Australia and 2 wickets for 16 runs in quarter final. In the quarter-final against West Indies, Hafeez provided a major contribution to the team's victory with 2 wickets and 60*, receiving the player of the match award. Also in the semi final he scored 43 runs and took a wicket for 31 runs in 10 overs although Pakistan lost the match.
In the tour of the West Indies, Hafeez continued his good form with both bat and ball scoring 267 runs in 5 matches with an average of 53.40, and took 6 wickets at an average of 23.50. . He made his second One Day International century in the 4th ODI, where he scored 121 runs before being bowled by the promising leg spinner Devendra Bishoo.
